Ongoing Treatment for HEARING LOSS

Hearing loss because of earwax or ear infections is generally cured after treating the cause. Work with your doctor if you continue to have a hearing problem in this situation. You may require more remedy or surgery, depending on the cause of your hearing loss.

If you had this permanent hearing loss like age – related and noise – induced hearing loss, you will probably continue to use a hearing aid. Your hearing specialist may recommend occasional hearing tests to see whether your hearing had changed. If the changed had occurred, your hearing aid may need adjustment.

Below are some other hearing devices that you may consider:

· Assistive listening devices. These devices make sounds louder by bringing the sound directly to your ear. You can have different kinds of devices for different cases for example one – on – one conversation and classroom settings or auditoriums. The most common used listening devices include telephone amplifiers, personal listening systems (such as auditory trainers and personal FM systems), and hearing aids that can be connected directly to a television, stereo, radio, or microphone.

· Alerting devices. Devices like this alert you to a particular sound (such as the doorbell, a ringing telephone, or a baby monitor) by using louder sounds, lights, or vibrations to catch your attention.

· Television closed – captioning. Television closed – captioning makes it easier for you to watch television by showing the words at the bottom of the screen so that you can read them.

· TTY (text telephone). TTYs (also called TDD, or telecommunication device for the deaf) let you type message back and forth on the telephone rather of talking or listening. The information is sent over the phone line to a receiving TTY and shown on a monitor when the messages are typed on the TTY keyboard. The one who makes a call possible from a phone to a TTY or vice versa is a telecommunication relay service.
